Rates & Mechanics

Everything on this page is read straight from the server configuration. If a number here disagrees with something you were told in chat, this page is right.

Experience#

Source Rate
Base EXP 5x
Job EXP 5x
Quest EXP 3x
Repeatable quest EXP 2x

Quest EXP sits lower than monster EXP on purpose. Quest rewards are fixed amounts written into the quest itself, so multiplying them by five turns a handful of turn-ins into a free level bracket. At 3x a quest is worth doing without being worth farming to the exclusion of everything else.

The eighteen Repeatable Quests run at 2x instead. They can be turned in without limit, so they sit below the rate for one-off quests. The original scripts were balanced around 2x anyway.

Party share bonus#

Turn on EXP Share in the party window and every kill any member lands gets split across the whole party, instead of only paying whoever landed the hit.

Party size Bonus per head Example: a 200 EXP kill
Solo - 200
2 +15% 115 each
3 +30% 86.7 each
4 +45% 72.5 each
5 +60% 64 each
6 +75% 57.5 each
12 (full party) +165% 44.2 each

The bonus is 15 percent for every member beyond the first, with no cap, so a full party earns more per head than the same people would grinding solo.

The 15 level rule#

EXP Share only works while your party spans 15 levels or less, measured from the lowest member to the highest. A party of 60 to 75 is fine, 60 to 76 is not.

Break it and the server does not warn you, it switches EXP Share off and leaves it off. Somebody has to turn it back on in the party window once the spread is back inside 15, so it is worth a glance after anyone levels up or a new member joins.

Only members who are online count toward the spread. A level 99 friend sitting offline in the party does not push anyone out.

The one exception is a family party, meaning a married couple and their child. Those three share regardless of level, as long as all three are online and on the same map.

Two things that surprise people:

  • You don't need to fight the same monster, or fight at all. As long as one party member damages it, the EXP that kill produces is split evenly across everyone in the party who is online, alive, and on the same map. A single spell or none at all makes no difference.
  • The whole map counts. A party member across town still gets their share. Only leaving the map cuts them off.

Turn EXP Share off and this stops. Each player then only earns EXP for the damage they personally deal.

Drops#

What Rate
Common items 5x
Healing items 5x
Usable items 5x
Equipment 5x
Normal cards 5x
Equipment from bosses and MVPs 5x
Boss cards 1x
MVP cards 1x
MVP exclusive drops 3x
Treasure chests 1x

Why boss and MVP cards stay at 1x#

A boss card at 5x turns into an everyday purchase. The market prices it like any other card, and the fight that used to be an occasion loses its draw.

Everything you need in order to play gets the full 5x treatment. Gear, healing items, normal cards, crafting materials. The handful of drops that were legendary in 2004 stay as hard to find as they were.

This rule was the founding promise of the server and it stays.

MVP exclusive drops sit at 3x as a middle ground. Those are the items only an MVP carries, and they are what makes the fight worth doing on the many occasions the card does not turn up.

Rare drop announcements#

When something drops at a rate of 0.1 percent or rarer, the whole server hears about it. Your name, the item, the monster it came from.

Rare things should be visible. Without the announcement nobody knows they exist, and nobody has any idea what anyone else is achieving.

Level and stat caps#

Cap Value
Max base level 99
Max job level, 2nd classes 50
Max job level, Transcendent 70
Max stat value 99
Max ASPD 190
Instant cast 150 DEX
Max cart weight 8,000

Third and fourth classes are switched off. This is a Pre-Renewal server and those classes belong to a different game.

Past level 99 there is Custom Rebirth, which is our own system rather than an official one.

Mechanical changes#

These are the places where we deviate from stock Pre-Renewal. Each one has a reason attached.

Natural HP regeneration every 4 seconds instead of 6, and SP every 6 seconds instead of 8. Sitting still is waiting, and shortening the wait costs nothing in balance.

Teleport Level 1 no longer opens a menu. One click and you jump. The old menu asked a question that had the same sensible answer every time.

Monster information is visible. You can see HP and element data on what you are fighting, so you can build against it without alt-tabbing to a database.

Click-to-walk paths run 32 tiles instead of 17, so crossing a map takes fewer clicks.

Larger view range, which matters most when something is coming at you.

Cosmetic options#

Setting Value
Hair styles 42
Hair colours 24
Clothing colours 255

All free and unlimited at the Stylist in Prontera, . Change your look as often as you like.

What this server does not have#

No cash shop. Nothing here can be bought with real money. No donation tier, no VIP rank, no item that costs anything but your time.

No @go. Fast travel exists, but you unlock it by walking. A command that teleports you anywhere would delete the system the whole server is built around.

No @warp, no @item, no @monster. Those are administration tools. Handing them to players turns the game into a sandbox, and a sandbox has no economy worth participating in.

No third classes, no Renewal formulas, no late episode content. If that is what you are looking for, other servers cover it better.

Checking the numbers yourself#

@rates prints the server rates into your chat window.

@myrates shows what you personally are earning at this moment, including any Battle Manual, event bonus or party share that happens to be running. When the two disagree, the second one is what lands in your experience bar.
