Beginner Guide
Your first hours on SecondWind RO: the training ground, job 10, the walk to Prontera, and the Warper, the one system that works differently here.
Beginner Guide
You have an account and the client is installed. Here is what to do next, roughly in order.
If you have played Ragnarok before, most of this will be familiar and you can skip to the part about the Warper, which is the one thing here that works differently from everywhere else.
Make a character#
Names are permanent unless you later buy a Name Change Voucher, so give it a moment.
Class choice is less permanent than it feels. Your first reset is free, and at 5x you can reach a second class quickly enough that experimenting costs an evening rather than a month. Classes has the overview.
Finish the Training Ground first#
You do not start in Prontera. Every new character wakes up in the Novice Training Ground, and that is where the first half hour belongs.
Work through it properly rather than looking for the exit. It walks you through movement, the interface, your first fights and the basic mechanics, and it hands out equipment and supplies along the way. Skipping it means arriving in the world with nothing and no idea which button does what.
The tutor who teaches you the interface hands you a welcome package at the end of his class: one
Battle Manual and twelve each of the
LV10 Blessing and
LV10 Agi scrolls. There is a second package waiting in Prontera later.
Level to job 10 while you are in there, and put every skill point into Basic Skill. Both are required for your job change, and the field course at the far end has everything you need for it. A guide there tells you how far along you are, a healer stands next to him, and there is a Settings Assistant so you can set your preferences before you ever reach town.
Change your job#
You do this before you leave. The Graduation Officer at the north end of the field course changes your class on the spot once you have job level 10 and Basic Skill at 9.
All ten first-class paths are there: Swordman, Mage, Archer, Acolyte, Merchant and Thief, plus Super Novice, Taekwon, Gunslinger and Ninja.
He sends you off with a starter kit:
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| A weapon for your new class | 1 |
Light Red Potion |
300 |
Free Ticket for Kafra Transportation |
20 |
Free Ticket for Kafra Storage |
20 |
LV10 Blessing Scroll (Bound) |
10 |
LV10 Agi Scroll (Bound) |
10 |
Archers get 500 arrows and Gunslingers 500 bullets on top. Then he warps you to Prontera and sets your save point there.
If you ever want to change your mind, the Job Master at handles every class change from then on, including rebirth.
Collect your second starter kit#
The Welcome Package stands at and gives you another
Battle Manual plus twelve more of each buff scroll, on top of the set the tutor already gave you.
One per character, so every character you make gets its own. Save the Battle Manuals for a proper grinding session rather than using one while you walk somewhere.
Those /navi commands appear throughout this wiki. Click the copy icon, paste into chat with Ctrl+V, press Enter, and your character walks there.
Set your preferences once#
Go to the Settings Assistant at and turn on auto-loot and kill steal protection.
This takes thirty seconds and saves you typing the same commands every session for the rest of your time here. Details on Settings Assistant.
Walk out of town#
This is the important one, and it is the thing most people get wrong on their first day.
The Warper only offers destinations your account has reached on foot. Everything else shows as locked. So early on, walk. Cross fields instead of looking for a shortcut, because there is not one, and every map you cross unlocks permanently for every character you will ever make on this account.
It also feeds your World Explorer progress, which runs up to 300 locations and a server-wide announcement.
The first hour of walking buys you a travel network you will use for years. It is worth the hour.
Level up#
With a class and a starter kit, the fields outside Prontera are where you belong next. Porings, Lunatics and Fabres until things stop being dangerous, then further out.
Every kill has a chance to drop a
Poring Coin, which is the currency you will spend at Lydia later.
From level 15, take the daily missions at the Questboard at . They pay zeny, EXP, Mission Points and coins together, and they point you at monsters that suit your level so you stop having to guess.
Party up whenever you can. The share bonus is 15 percent per additional member, so grouping is never worse than soloing.
The Leveling Guide covers where to go at each stage.
Learn the town#
Prontera holds nearly everything. The essentials are also in every other town.
| NPC | Where | What for |
|---|---|---|
| Soul Priestess | every town | Free instant heal plus Blessing and AGI |
| Warper | every town | Travel to anywhere you have been |
| Kafra Employee | every town | Storage for 40z, cart for 800z, save point |
| Graduation Officer | north end of the field course | Your first job change, before you leave |
| Job Master | Every class change after that, plus rebirth | |
| Settings Assistant | Your preferences, remembered | |
| Support Terminal | Stuck, or something is broken | |
| Hall of Fame | Where you stand |
The complete list is in the NPC Directory, with a walk command for every single one.
Pick something to aim at#
Fighting. The Hall of Fame has thirteen boards, and the per-class one is far more reachable than the overall level board.
Exploring. Four World Explorer tiers, ending in a golden announcement at 300 locations.
Collecting. Poring Coins buy convenience and cosmetics at Lydia, and the Card Collector achievement runs to 100 distinct cards.
Endgame. Reach Transcendent, then keep going with Custom Rebirth for five more cycles and a permanent 15x.
Company. Events run all day, and almost all of them pay coins.
Commands you will use constantly#
@autoloot 1 @noks @showexp
@rates @myrates @home
@whosell <item> @mobinfo <mob> @whodrops <item>
@whosell deserves special mention. It searches every open player shop on the server, which saves an astonishing amount of walking.
The full list is on Player Commands.
When something goes wrong#
Stuck in scenery, use the Support Terminal or type @home.
A question, try the FAQ or ask in Discord. Somebody is usually around.
Something broken, file a ticket at the Support Terminal. It stays in the system until a GM closes it.
